3 Ingredient Breakfast Smoothie

You know breakfast is an important meal but you have so little time for thoughtful decisions in the morning?

Inspiration for creating a nutritious meal or smoothie that tastes delicious enough to eat regularly = zero?

You’re not alone.

With all the unreliable and contradictory information that’s out there on diet health, it’s hard to know what is actually best for your body and at the same time achievable to maintain for a lifetime.

Reading book after book and taking course after course, I have yet to find “the one” plan that is unequivocally “right” and like you, I get confused about it all the time.  Should I be eating more protein? more carbs? more fruit? more grains? less calories? less fat?!

What I am realizing is that this is an individual journey we all must go on for ourselves.  Every body is different.  So I’m starting with this:

What makes my body and my mind feel good?

Starting the day with a fruit based smoothie makes me feel light, energized and ready for what’s ahead.  I’m clear-headed and positively focused, too.  I feel proud of my breakfast choice and I’m better equipped to make thoughtful food choices all day long.

That feels right to me. So that’s what I have been doing.

A green or blue smoothie is a treat for the eyes and taste buds, but you don’t need fresh spinach and blueberries to make a seriously healthy smoothie for a quick breakfast.

Just some ripe bananas and a handful of other delights, like plump sweet raisins and anti-oxidant rich chia seeds will do.

Blended together with lots of fresh water, this makes a wonderfully nutrient dense banana smoothie that tastes amazing and to me….just feels RIGHT!

INGREDIENTS
  • 4 medium sized ripe bananas (I use freeze them first!)
  • ½ cup raisins
  • ½ cup chia seeds
  • 1½ cups water
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Put all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.

  1. Last week, I started working at a camp and found myself so incredibly hungry at lunch that I actually ate 2 grilled cheeses, a big salad, grilled chicken, two scoops of egg salad, and oranges! This week, I decided to bring a breakfast smoothie with me each day. It has really made a difference and I am relieved to say that I am just having the salad with one protein and fruit. My recipe was: a handful of spinach, frozen peach slices, a half a frozen banana, some raw oats, chia seeds, and water. Yum! I am going to try your recipe on Monday (I’ll probably add the oats too) and I look forward to more recipes like these. Thank you Amanda!

    • Neen, thanks so much for your comment and your honesty about the struggle a lot of us deal with to find the right foods to fuel and satiate us. It’s not easy and by no means is it straight forward. I’m happy to hear you are experiencing the same effect as me with having breakfast smoothies! Your recipe sounds delicious – I love peaches and the frozen fruit is perfect for hot summer days. I have a few additional smoothie recipes on the site (including a Coconut Date Smoothie with oats!) but you can definitely look forward to more of these recipes.
