This delicious yogurt sauce is a star with any Indian or Mediterranean based meal as a dipping sauce, sandwich spread, or salad dressing. Using garam masala makes it super simple too.
The ground garam masala mix that I use contains coriander seed, black pepper, allspice, cumin, cardamom, turmeric, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, bay leaves, cassia, chili pepper, and cayenne pepper. It’s not spicy hot but it is amazingly flavorful.
Keeping a great spice mix like this around is an easy and quick way to add lots of flavor with little effort.
Using yogurt based dips, dressings and sauces can really cut down on high calories that are usually associated with creamy alternatives, like sour cream, for example. Yogurt sauces can be easily substituted for sour cream based dips.
For example, this Indian spiced yogurt sauce makes a great pair with hummus and raw vegetables instead of ranch dip.
It has many other benefits too: all yogurts are excellent sources of calcium, potassium, protein, zinc, and vitamins B6 and B12.
Greek yogurt has twice the amount of protein than regular yogurt and it won’t curdle when you cook with it so its a great addition to Indian curry or Mexican dishes.
The thicker consistency of Greek yogurt makes it ideal as a dip. Just look at how this luscious yogurt sauce stayed perched on top of my scallion and parsley falafel while I snapped this photo!
